The Essence of Me is…WE
The “we” are my parents, older brother, mini bernedoodle Maple, and two Saint Bernards named Nelson and Rosie. Our house may be carpeted with dog fur, but it’s also filled with love and fun! Here’s a personal preference: reading psychological thrillers! My favorite is The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (May 2023).
Breaking Down the Playbook
I love to learn, play sports, building self-confidence among female athletes, and be of service to others. My family’s traditions incorporate academics and athletics, inspiring me to study hard and play hard. Grandma Sandy Fry, a retired elementary school teacher, is married to Spider Fry, who was Dartmouth’s Head Trainer before becoming Head Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director at U Maryland. His career spans 56 years. My mom attended U Kentucky on a full golf scholarship, while my dad played baseball and was a diver in high school. My older brother, Owen, played national travel and high school baseball.
Becoming a Deep-Sea Detective….
Riding the Waves of Curiosity
Having spent every summer on the same Delaware beach since I was a baby, I’ve developed a deep connection with the ocean. Mornings are my favorite time, sitting alone on my surfboard, legs dangling in the vast Atlantic, I listen to the rhythm of the waves and feel a sense of peace and clarity. Each summer brings new discoveries about marine life, and over time, my bond with ocean animals has transformed into a true passion.
This passion led me to be one of twenty-seven students selected for Brown University’s Environmental Leadership Lab (BELL) Pre College program at the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. There, I explored questions like whether shifts in great white shark migrations affect salmon populations, how food availability influences orca routes, and the effects of rising global temperatures on breeding patterns.
Working alongside professors, field experts, and fellow students in such an engaged community was a game changer. I learned how to conduct research, analyze ecological impacts, and exchange ideas with peers who share my love for the ocean.
Building on these experiences, I’ve also pursued the investigative side of marine science. In October, I participated in the University of Florida’s GatorWISE DNA Forensic program, where I learned how forensic investigators analyze evidence, reconstruct accident and crime scenes, and uncover truths in both marine and terrestrial environments.
Recently, I was thrilled to be accepted into Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS), chosen from over 13,000 applicants. In the Solving Global Challenges session, I’ll collaborate with an international cohort on global issues while applying insights locally through initiatives like GO GIRL and my work in marine forensics. This experience will strengthen my critical thinking and problem solving skills, tools I plan to use to uncover the hidden stories of our oceans.
Curious about the discoveries I’ve made? Check out my Marine Forensics page for journal excerpts, my action plan, and pictures from my adventures!
More than a Game
Seems I’ve always had a softball bat in my hand. Dad’s love of baseball led me to play. In one of my fondest memories of my dad, he’s sitting in a green colored chair behind home plate cheering me, rain or shine. He has driven me everywhere and watched me play in tournaments throughout the year. See a picture of Dad and me on this page!
Polishing Potential
Over time, my passion for softball grew. It’s my principal sport. In general, athletics continues to teach me integrity, courage, acceptance of failure, and team leadership. Navigating the world of sports as a young female athlete isn’t always easy; as we mature and become uncomfortable in our uniforms, we’re more likely to quit playing the sports we love. Last February, I founded Go Girl, with the aim of keeping girls in sports. A group of us athletes spend one hour twice a month sharing experiences and discussing ways to effect change. Check out my Athletics page for more!
Keeping Girls in the Game
Girl to build self-confidence and positive body image through faith. The result is that girls remain in sports and connected to a group of supportive peers who have the Lord on their side! I’m also finding ways to effect change. I approached Brookwood’s Athletic Director with the idea of connecting with a broader group of female athletes by hosting a series of three Go Girl Forum this school year providing a safe environment to share ways we can affect change together! She jumped at the chance, and we are currently planning our Fall 2025 Forum!
Go Girl: Confidence that Fits
On October 21, 2025, in collaboration with Brookwood’s Athletic Director, I hosted the very first Go Girl forum, bringing together 10 female athletes for an honest conversation about how uniforms impact confidence and mental health. The girls openly shared their experiences with body image, self-esteem, and team culture. That afternoon confirmed why I started Go Girl : girls need safe, faith-centered spaces where they feel seen, heard, and supported.
Go Girl has continued to grow! On February 11, 2026, I hosted our third forum with the Brookwood Girls Varsity Basketball Team. As founder, I created Go Girl to bring female athletes together for real conversations that build confidence, strengthen identity, and lead to action. During this session, I incorporated my AP Research project, asking intentional questions about confidence, pressure, uniforms, and belonging.
What makes Go Girl different is that we don’t stop at conversation. Together, we develop practical action steps such as: identifying specific uniform concerns, proposing thoughtful adjustments, and collaborating with coaches and administrators to help ensure girls feel comfortable, confident, and focused when they compete. Their honest answers are shaping my research and guiding real, meaningful improvements in our athletic program!
As a junior who plays both softball and basketball, I care deeply about keeping girls in the sports they love and empowering them to lead with courage and character, on and off the field. Go Girl reflects my heart, my faith, and my long-term commitment to creating lasting, positive change for female athletes!

Effecting Change one Button at a Time…
During our May meeting, Go Girl softball players expressed their discomfort with the uniform tops we wear. They shared that because there are only three buttons on the top, when they throw the ball, the top opens, making them uncomfortable and distracted on the field. Go Girl took action! We approached our Head Coach, explained the issue, and Coach agreed to have a fourth button added to our tops in time for the start of the season in August. Now we feel more comfortable and focused on the game! Go Girl is effecting change, one button at a time!
Choosing the Right Influence
I’ve been fortunate to build strong relationships with teachers who nurture my interests and challenge me to take notice. In AP Lang class, we’re reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, and our insightful teacher, Mr. P, introduced the quote “Hard to see, the dark side is” from Star Wars. He explained that Yoda refers to the hidden and deceptive nature of evil. As a class, we connected this to the theme in In Cold Blood that darkness can exist unnoticed within people, echoing Yoda’s warning about the elusive nature of the dark side.
This idea came up again during a recent DNOW church retreat, where we studied Proverbs 13:18–22. Solomon writes, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” It made me realize how much our relationships shape us. In a world full of influencers, I’m asking myself: Who am I walking with? Are they wise or foolish and how can I tell?
As I do my nightly Bible annotations, I pray for God’s guidance to help me determine. Jesus walked everywhere with his disciples. As they walked, I imagine him sharing with them, shaping them. The real influence happened when they walked together. For me, listening to a podcast may be helpful, but it’s not a relationship. To walk with the wise, I’m seeking out a mentor to glean wisdom and paying attention to who shows up to be with me and invite them closer. Stay tuned to see where my journey leads!
As part of our recent youth service, I described what Proverbs 13:18-22 meant to me and how God’s influences my life through those verses. Check out the picture below!
Serving with Heart
Through my journey, I’ve found that the skills I cultivate such as thoughtfully planning, working diligently, staying deeply committed, building meaningful connections, and learning from past missteps, apply to both academics and athletics. These qualities shape not only my performance but my resilience, allowing me to move forward with confidence and grace. Being of Service to others helps. For the last three years, it’s what’s driven me to consistently participate in service projects at Villa North Apartments, where volunteers require police escort. It’s not about checking the box for me. It’s serving to complete people. Like with my 6-year-old friend, Diamond, who lives at Villa North. I formed a relationship with Diamond simply by drawing in chalk on the street together. As we did, Diamond and I called for other kids to join us and soon the group was creating a beautiful mural! Another experience that keeps me centered occurs every September when Brookwood’s athletic teams ran alongside members of the Thomasville Fire Department in honor of 9/11. Take a look at the Service to Others page for more information. There are many ways to serve in Thomasville, if ever in our neck of the woods, join us!
The Journey Ahead!
Dreaming big and setting goals is exhilarating, but it can also feel like a daunting journey. As I look ahead, I reflect on the experiences and incredible individuals who have shaped my path, sparking my passions and guiding me toward my interests. My ambition is to create a future that encourages growth, challenges me, and, of course, keeps softball at the heart of it all.
I’m eager to share the next steps in my journey and stay connected with you! If you’d like to reach out, simply share your contact details by clicking here.
